Positive Counselling HIV/Hep C. Team Philosophy

The HIV/Hep C Positive Counselling Team is committed to a high standard of clinical practice in counselling people who are infected with or whose lives are affected by HIV or Hep C.  We operate in a non-judgmental framework.  There is no fee and confidentiality is assured.

The team works in a collaborative manner, using a diversity of therapeutic approaches with a family sensitive focus.  We believe that as a result of HIV or Hep C, marginalised clients are often further marginalised and that their needs must attended to with great sensitivity and care.

The philosophy of the Positive Counselling Team is based on the core principles that the individual is sensitive not only to the context of interpersonal relationships, but also to the relationship between them and the wider community.  Exploring the beliefs and patterns surrounding these relationships can help to elicit change.

The team is committed to training in the area of HIV and Hep C.  To attain a high standard in this area it is necessary to have current knowledge of recent developments through attendance at conferences, keeping up to date with changes and information and membership of appropriate organisations.  We share our expertise by offering training workshops and supervision.

Networking and community liaison are a priority for the HIV/Hep C team.  We provide support, supervision and consultation to organisations and individuals.

The team has a strong interest in ongoing research in the area of HIV and Hep C and at times various members are involved in research as part of their academic process.
